Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear reunited at the 2020 Art of Elysium Heaven gala last weekend
Surviving Nirvana members Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic and touring guitarist Pat Smear reunited at the 2020 Art of Elysium Heaven gala, which took place Saturday (Jan. 4) at the Palladium in Los Angeles. The trio last reunited for a six-song performance at the 2018 Cal Jam festival.
Grohl was originally set to perform at the gala as “Dave Grohl & Friends,” so it turns out his “friends” just happen to be the surviving members of Metallica. Other artists set to perform with Grohl include Beck, St. Vincent and his 13-year-old daughter, Violet.
Grohl, Novoselic and Smear performed five Nirvana hits with Beck, St. Vincent and Violet on vocals. St. Vincent sang “Lithium,” while Beck voiced “In Bloom” and “Been A Son.” Violet sang “Heart-Shaped Box.” The band also performed a cover of David Bowie’s “The Man Who Sold The World.” Watch some fan-filmed footage of the night below.
The rest of the Art of Elysium Heaven lineup also packed a star-power punch, with Marilyn Manson, Cheap Trick and L7 all on the bill.

In other news, Grohl’s band Foo Fighters has been in the studio working on a new album, which will mark their follow-up to 2017’s “Concrete and Gold.” The new record is expected to arrive later this year.
