The folks behind Record Store Day have unearthed the official list of 2021 releases, and as always, it packs a punch with a range of rock, metal and alternative bands. Among the big names on the release list are Anthrax, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam and The Who.
Anthrax have joined forces with Record Store Day for a pack of four three-inch vinyl singles, coupled with a custom miniature turntable. The vinyl bundle out drops July 9, and the turntable is out July 17. Rage Against the Machine will release “The Battle of Mexico City” on vinyl for the first time for Records Store Day. The album was recorded at the group’s debut gig in Mexico back in 1999.
Pearl Jam will offer a special version of their Ten cut, “Alive,” as a 12-inch vinyl single and on cassette. Both offerings will feature the original promo single version of “Alive,” as well as three B-sides and a cover of The Beatles’ “I’ve Got a Feeling.”
In classic rock land, Australian rockers AC/DC will release a 12-inch picture disc packing two songs from the band’s 2020 album, “Power Up”: “Through the Mists of Time” and “Witch’s Spell.” The Who will offer a two-LP 40th anniversary edition of their 1981 record, “Face Dances.” Metal titans Black Sabbath will unleash picture disc versions of their 1980 and 1981 studio albums, “Heaven and Hell” and “Mob Rules,” featuring vocals from the late, great Ronnie James Dio.
Record Store Day 2021 will also bring vinyl releases from Alkaline Trio, Avatar, AWOLNATION, Beastie Boys, Bastille, Beck, Matt Bellamy of Muse, Bush, Cold War Kids, The Cure, Deftones, Dio, Garbage, Gorillaz, HAIM, Judas Priest, iDKHOW, K.Flay, Linkin Park, Mastodon, Mötley Crüe, St. Vincent, Sleeping with Sirens, Twenty One Pilots, The Struts, Sublime, U2 and more.
