Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 says he’s been undergoing chemotherapy for the past three months

Blink-182 bass player and singer Mark Hoppus has announced that he’s been privately fighting cancer and getting chemotherapy treatments. While he didn’t disclose the type of cancer he has or what stage he’s in, he did offer some insight on his treatment.

“For the past three months I’ve been undergoing chemotherapy for cancer,” Hoppus said via Twitter. “I have cancer. It sucks and I’m scared, and at the same time I’m blessed with incredible doctors and family and friends to get me through this.”

“I still have months of treatment ahead of me but I’m trying to remain hopeful and positive,” he added. “Can’t wait to be cancer free and see you all at a concert in the hopefully near future. Love to you all.”

Previously, Hoppus allegedly posted about his cancer treatment in an Instagram post that was deleted but screenshotted by a fan. In that post, Hoppus shared a photo of himself at the doctor’s office with the caption, “Yes hello. One cancer treatment, please.”

Hoppus founded Blink-182 alongside drummer Scott Raynor and guitarist and vocalist Tom DeLonge. Raynor was replaced early on by Travis Barker, and DeLonge was replaced later by Matt Skiba. Hoppus is responsible for writing many of the punk-pop group’s hits, which are considered to be some of the most popular songs of the late-‘1990s, early-2000s alternative rock era.

Barker and DeLonge both spoke out about the news. Barker posted some Instagram Stories in support of his friend, stating, “Love you @markhoppus.” DeLong took to Twitter, stating, “I too, have been aware of @markhoppus’s cancer diagnosis for awhile now. And to add to his own words that he used today, I would also like to say that he is strong, and a super-human who is pushing through this difficult obstacle with a wide-open heart.”
