Corey Taylor says new music from Slipknot is will drop in spring 2022

Slipknot have been working hard on their follow-up to 2019’s “We Are Not Your Kind,” and the album is coming sooner than many fans expected. In fact, frontman Corey Taylor says the new set should arrive around March or April of 2022.

Taylor discussed the timeline for new Slipknot music during a Thursday (Dec. 16) appearance appearance on HardDrive Radio. He told HardDrive’s Lou Brutus (via Metal Hammer), “The goal right now — and I don’t wanna talk out of turn — the goal is to get it ready for mix in January so we can get it out two or three months after.”

The upcoming album will mark Slipknot’s seventh. It’s being mixed by Joe Barresi, who also mixed Slipknot’s “WANYK” and 2014’s “.5: The Gray Chapter,” plus has worked with a bevy of other major rock and metal artists, including Soundgarden and Judas Priest.

When asked more about the new music, Taylor said they basically have four songs left to complete. “I have four songs that I [still] have to sing ’cause I’m re-doing one that I wasn’t happy with,” he said. “I listened to it and I was like, ‘I can do that better.’ And honestly, very rarely have I ever had the opportunity to do that.”

He added, “[It’s] kind of rad that I’m getting a chance to go in and go, ‘You know what? I can beat what I did.’ But that’s going to take me five days to get that done. ‘Cause I’m going to do those four songs and then go back through and punch-up anything I’m just not feeling. But it’s going to be very, very little because I’m pretty down with everything that I’ve got. Once that’s done, it’s just a matter of having Joe mix it.”

Taylor also said that Slipknot percussionist Shawn “Clown” Crahan is working on the album’s artwork. As for music videos, he said new clips are coming for both the recently released single “The Chapeltown Rag,” as well as whatever track will be deemed the first single on Slipknot’s upcoming record.
