Haley Williams and Paramore have returned with a new single called “This is Why”

Paramore are back with their first new song since releasing their 2017 album, “After Laughter.” The new song, called “This is Why,” dropped this week, ushering in a fresh start of sorts for Hayley Williams and the crew.

In addition to the new song, Paramore have announced that the track takes its name from Paramore’s upcoming sixth studio album, “This Is Why,” which drops on Feb. 10, 2023.

Williams has spent the past few years releasing solo music, but Paramore never “broke up.” Last year, she hinted at a new Paramore album on the way. Then, earlier this month, Paramore’s band members each changed their profile pictures on Instagram, hinting at big news again. Finally, a few weeks ago, Paramore shared news on the new collection and when to expect it. Paramore also have their first tour in four years set to launch in October. The current Paramore lineup features Williams, drummer Zac Farro and instrumentalist Taylor York.

Of the new song, Williams states in a press release, “‘This Is Why’ was the very last song we wrote for the album. To be honest, I was so tired of writing lyrics but Taylor convinced Zac and I both that we should work on this last idea. What came out of it was the title track for the whole album.”

She continues, “It summarizes the plethora of ridiculous emotions, the rollercoaster of being alive in 2022, having survived even just the last 3 or 4 years. You’d think after a global pandemic of fucking biblical proportions and the impending doom of a dying planet, that humans would have found it deep within themselves to be kinder or more empathetic or something.”

Paramore have been an alternative pop-punk mainstay since releasing their 2005 studio album, “All We Know Is Falling.” Their 2007 single “Misery Business” was a No. 1 hit and is still on alternative radio.
