The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced its 2023 Rock Hall inductees,  class of 2023, and the tally includes Rage Against the Machine, Willie Nelson, Missy Elliott, Kate Bush, George Michael, Sheryl Crow and The Spinners. All of the artists will be inducted during a ceremony taking place later this year in Brooklyn, New York.

On top of the inductees, Chaka Khan, Al Kooper, and Bernie Taupin will receive the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s Musical Excellence Award. Also, DJ Kool Herc and Link Wray will score the Musical Influence Award. Late Soul Train host Don Cornelius will receive this year’s Ahmet Ertegun Award, which recognizes non-performing industry professionals.

An international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians and members of the music industry voted on the inductees. To be eligible to be inducted, a nominee’s first recording must have been released at least 25 years ago.

For Rage Against the Machine, the honor is a long time coming. This year marks their fifth nomination. This year also marks Kate Bush’s fourth nomination. The Rock Hall is inducting Nelson, Elliott, Michael and Crow on their first try. It’s also worth noting that Michael received the most fan votes out of the 2023 nominees.

The artists who didn’t make the cut this year include Soundgarden, Iron Maiden, The White Stripes, Cyndi Lauper, Joy Division/New Order, A Tribe Called Quest and Warren Zevon. Metal fans will likely be upset that Iron Maiden didn’t make the cut. After all, the Rock Hall is known for leaving out heavy metal acts out, year after year.

The 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony will to take place at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. The event will happen on Nov. 3. For more information, visit the Rock Hall website.
