Steven Tyler’s ‘Vocal Injury’ Causes Aerosmith to Postpone All Tour Dates
Aerosmith postpone all tour dates: Steven Tyler’s “vocal injury” is causing the band to reschedule all of their remaining shows
The guys of Aerosmith had big plans for their farewell tour. But, like many rockers who are getting up there in years, health issues are getting in the way. The legendary classic rockers recently postponed a month of shows on their “Peace Out” farewell tour. At the time, that meant Aerosmith would only reschedule six shows. But, now the group has postponed all of their remaining farewell tour dates. According to a social message from the band, the reason for the major scheduling change is due to vocalist Steven Tyler’s vocal injury, which “is more serious than initially thought.”
Aerosmith’s final tour kicked off in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, at the beginning of September. It got off to a strong start, but just three shows in, Tylor’s vocal issues forced the band to stop. At the time, the band announced that Tyler would require 30 days of vocal rest. But, now it appears he’ll need much more rest than that to full recuperate. It’s a bummer for Aerosmtih fans, but it can’t be a total surprise. Look at how many times Ozzy Osbourne has scheduled and canceled shows, after all.
Aerosmith took to social media on Friday (Sept. 29) to share the news. In the message, they stated, “To our fans: Unfortunately, Steven’s vocal injury is more serious than initially thought. His doctor has confirmed that in addition to the damage to his vocal cords, he fractured his larynx which requires ongoing care.” The message added that, “He is receiving the best medical treatment available to ensure his recovery is swift, but given the nature of a fracture, he is being told patience is essential.”
Then, in the message, Aerosmith went on to explain that because of the health issues, “all the currently scheduled ‘Peace Out’ shows must be postponed to sometime in 2024, with new dates to be announced as soon as we know more.” The good news is that the band isn’t totally putting a nix to these shows. At least, that’s the plan.
Tyler added, “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world. I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”
According to Aerosmith, the band will honor all tickets for the postponed dates at the rescheduled shows. Once they announced the new shows, fans who are unable to attend the new dates will be able to collect a full refund at the point of purchase.
Aerosmith announced their farewell tour dates in in the spring. Regarding drummer Joey Kramer not being on this final tour, the band said, “While Joey Kramer remains a beloved founding member of Aerosmith, he has regrettably made the decision to sit out the currently scheduled touring dates to focus his full attention on his family and health. Joey’s unmistakable and legendary presence behind the drum kit will be sorely missed.” For more on the upcoming tour and rescheduled dates, visit Aerosmith’s official website.
