Lawsuit Against Paramore’s ‘The Only Exception’ Dropped, Says Band
‘Frivolous’ lawsuit against pop-punk group official dropped
It looks like Paramore are home free when it comes to a recent lawsuit filed against the pop-punk group. Hayley Williams and her crew have announced on their official website that a lawsuit claiming the band plagiarized the 2010 song “The Only Exception” has formally been terminated, and they couldn’t be happier.
On Wednesday (March 21), Paramore released this official statement regarding the deflated lawsuit: “We’d like to let Paramore fans know that yesterday the frivolous lawsuit claiming Paramore plagiarized another band’s work regarding ‘The Only Exception’ was officially dropped. There was never a doubt in our minds that the case would go any further, as this song, which Paramore wrote every note of, is very personal to them and one they are extremely proud of.” The band also proudly re-posted their punk-fueled music video for “The Only Exception” on the blog.
Tenspoke Indies, a rock band from Florida, are the guys who filed the lawsuit and asserted that Paramore’s “The Only Exception” took from parts of their track, “Starlighter.” Tenspoke Indies were in the process of trying to sue Paramore for copyright infringement “including but not limited to, similarities in the introductions, arrangements, the chord progression, the key, the melody, the lyrical theme, the rhythm and tempo of both songs.” Meanwhile, Paramore are hard at work on the follow-up to their blockbuster, 2009 album, “Brand New Eyes,” which is expected to see a release date in late 2012 or early 2013.
