Rage Against the Machine Guitarist Tom Morello Talks New Documentary
Tom Morello releases new documentary in 30 different languages
In observance of International Worker’s Day on May 1, Rage Against the Machine and Nightwatchman guitarist Tom Morello issued a free download of his latest documentary, “World Wide Rebel Tour.” The documentary is named after Morello’s latest album with the Nightwatchman, “World Wide Rebel Songs.”
The 30-minute flick includes a Q&A with Morello as well as live performances of the tracks “It Begins Tonight,” “Black Spartacus Heart Attack Machine,” “Save the Hammer for the Man” and “World Wide Rebel Songs,” all of which hail from “World Wide Rebel Songs.”
As for the inspiration for the documentary, Morello says that came from the many workers he’s met while touring around the world. “It’s the stories, the songs and the struggles of people around the globe who have informed my music, and this World Wide Rebel Tour free documentary is a way of giving back in a medium that I’ve never seen before from a U.S. artist,” Morello told Rolling Stone.
Morello’s documentary is available in 42 different versions in 30 different languages, so it serves an international audience. “It’s 42 voices from 42 countries, and a couple of them are people you might have seen before,” says Morello. “[System of a Down frontman] Serj Tankian does the Armenian one, [guitarist] Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme does the Portuguese one. But for the most part, it’s just folks.”
Fans may stream or download “World Wide Rebel Tour” in its entirety via the World Wide Rebel Tour site. For more information on the release, head to the documentary’s official site.
