Neo-folk band Mumford & Sons are experimenting with new sounds on their upcoming, third album

Mumford & Sons made a name for themselves with their neo-folk sound, but now, the band may move from its stripped-down style to something a tad more electronic on their third studio album.

When asked about the upcoming album, lead singer Marcus Mumford told the U.K.’s Sunday Times’ Style magazine, “We’ve always done what feels good, rather than what we’ve thought long and hard about, and we’ll do whatever feels soulful next, whether that’s with an electric guitar or a synthesizer.”

“It’s dangerous for us to talk about what we’ve been discussing for the third album, but we do have greater ambitions not to just stay within certain sonic confines,” added keyboard player Ben Lovett. “We’re not going to be the band that stands for folk music or organic music.”

In other Mumford & Sons news, the band recently picked up a whopping six Grammy nominations, including Album of the Year for their latest release, “Babel.” The group also just closed out the second leg of their Tour of Two Halves on Dec. 18 in London. Plans for next year include recording sessions for the new album and more touring. For a complete list of upcoming tour dates, visit Mumford & Sons’ official website.
