A Perfect Circle guitarist Billy Howerdel says he hopes to release a new album ‘when the time is right’

A Perfect Circle are on target to play a one-off show at Las Vegas’ Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Dec. 29., and while the Maynard James Keenan-fronted band doesn’t have much else planned for 2013 in terms of touring or recording, guitarist Billy Howerdel says he’s raring to put out a new album with the alternative metal group.

When asked if the group have any plans to put out a follow-up to 2004’s “eMOTIVe,” Howerdel told the Las Vegas Weekly, “No, I’d love to—when the time is right. It would be awesome. I’m trying to write songs with that in mind, but … right now, I’m focusing most of my energy on a new ASHES dIVIDE record, which is under way with 11 songs. Still working on finishing vocals and writing lyrics, and hopefully get that thing mixed in January or February.”

Even without a new album on tap, Howerdel says live shows are important to the band. A Perfect Circle got back together in 2010 and have been making the rounds ever since. As for why 2010 was the right time to regroup with A Perfect Circle, Howerdel explained, “Schedules aligned, that kind of thing. We always had intentions of doing it, but we had other projects we wanted to focus on. And it’s kind of been nice sprinkling in tours here and there.”
