AFI Back with New Song, ‘I Hope You Suffer’
Stream AFI’s new single, ‘I Hope You Suffer,’ off their upcoming album
Last we heard of AFI, the California-based goth-punk band was taking time off following a run in support of 2009’s “Crash Love.” Now, the band is back with a new label, Republic Records, and the gents are gearing up to release their ninth studio album and hit the road.
Today (July 18), the gents released a stream of the first single from the upcoming set. The track, “I Hope You Suffer,” offers a mix of gigantic guitars, spacey atmospheres and lead singer Davey Havok’s powerful, emotive croon. Take a listen to the track, which is officially released on July 23, via the Soundcloud player below.
While AFI’s upcoming album doesn’t have a title yet, the release is expected to arrive sometime in September. The album follows a long line of successful AFI release, including “Crash Love,” “Decemberunderground” and “Sing the Sorrow,” among others.
When it comes to signing with Republic, the band — which includes Havok, drummer Adam Carson, bass player Hunter Burgan and guitarist Jade Puget — is stoked. “We are thrilled to be joining the Republic family for the release of our ninth record,” Havok said in an official statement. “We’ve spent over two years realizing this album and could not be more excited to share it with all.”
AFI are expected to announce a fall North American Tour in the coming weeks. Until then, fans can catch them at the 2013 Riot Fest & Carnival in Chicago in September.
