Soundgarden to Release 20th Anniversary ‘Superunknown’ Reissue
Chris Cornell-fronted Soundgarden will celebrate the 20th anniversary of ‘Superunknown’ with a special reissue
This year will mark the 20th anniversary of Soundgarden’s famed “Superunknown” album, and Chris Cornell and company are prepping some special releases in honor of the milestone. On June 3, the band will unleash a Super Deluxe Edition of the album, including a remaster, a Blu-Ray Audio 51. Surround Sound version, demos, B-Sides and practice clips. Fans of vinyl will also find a two-LP gate fold of the original 16 vinyl tracks remastered on 200-gram vinyl. The Seattle band will also release a pared-down Deluxe Edition offering two CDs.
Soundgarden have posted a special practice recording of their song “The Day I Tried to Live,” which will be included on the demos and b-sides disc of both editions, via Soundcloud. Listen to the song below.
On top of the Super Deluxe Edition, the “Superunknown” singles and b-sides will be released with new artwork sleeves by Josh Graham on Record Store Day, April 19, as a collection of five limited-edition 10-inch vinyl albums.
“Superunknown” is the album that took the band from underground Seattle sensations to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with popular singles such as “Spoonman,” “Black Hole Sun” and “Fell on Black Days.” View the full track listings for the upcoming reissues on Soundgarden’s official website.
