Tool Frontman Maynard James Keenan’s Workout Mix: Pink Floyd, AC/DC and More
Maynard James Keenan of Tool appears on a new episode of Sammy Hagar’s Rock & Roll Road Trip and discusses his love for running
Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan is gearing up to release a new album with Tool, but in the meantime, he appears on an upcoming episode of former Van Halen singer Sammy Hagar’s Rock & Roll Road Trip TV series.
In a clip from the upcoming episode, the Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer frontman discusses how running cross-country in high school oddly ended up influencing how he singing and writes rock songs.
In a discussion with Hagar, Keenan describes his running in high school and how he didn’t have the traditional “in-out” breathing rhythm.
“I actually had odd rhythms…I was actually running to the steps,” Keenan says. “So, if you’re going over hills, or down hills, or in chuck-holes…my breath would follow those rhythms.”
So, what’s Maynard James Keenan’s workout mix sound like? Speaking with Hagar, Keenan says that while he runs and works out, he likes to listen to bands such as Pink Floyd, King Crimson, AC/DC and Joni Mitchell, adding that he things those artists influenced him and helped shape him into the musician he is today.
Keenan’s Rock & Roll Road Trip episode will air this Sunday at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on AXS TV. The episode will also feature an appearance from celebrity chef Guy Fieri.
Tool’s highly-anticipated follow-up to 2006’s “10,000” Days will arrive on Aug. 30.
