Chris Cornell Family ‘Heartbroken’ Over Vandalizing of Seattle Statue

The Seattle statue honoring late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell has been vandalized.

Chris’ widow Vicky Cornell posted a photo on her Instagram of the vandalized statue, which looks like it’s covered completely in white paint. The caption on the photo states that she and her children are “heartbroken” about the statue.

“The statue is not only art, but a tribute to Chris, his incomparable musical legacy and everything that he stood for,” Vicky said. “It represents Chris, who is beloved not only in Seattle, but worldwide.”

Vicky point out in the Instagram post that the vandalism was not related to the protests in Seattle against racism and police brutality. Instead, she was it was “carried out by a single disturbed individual at 6am in an attempt to besmirch Chris’ legacy.”

“I’m so grateful to the fans who stood up to support and showed such immense love,” Vicky added. “After hearing about it, they made their way there in the middle of the night with supplies and tried to clean it up.”

“The statue will be restored,” she concluded. “Hate will not win.”

Chris Cornell’s statue is positioned outside Seattle’s Museum of Pop Culture. The statue was officially put into place in October 2018 during a ceremony featuring his Soundgarden band mates Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Ben Shepherd and Chris’ three children Lily, Toni and Christopher.
