California rockers AFI have released two new songs, “Twisted Tongues” and “Escape from Los Angeles.” The tracks, which are available to stream via YouTube below, are the first bit of new music to arrive from AFI’s upcoming, as-yet-untitled new album.

“As I recall, ‘Twisted Tongues’ came of the Blood era and was the first piece of music we explored on the new album,” frontman Davey Havok said in a statement. “The dreaminess of the music lyrically inspired themes of unforeseen severance. It is a pining song of being set adrift by those who once feigned to share the same anchors.”

“Los Angeles, like most of my loves, is imbued with a darkness and radiance,” Havok continued. “Musically, ‘Escape from Los Angeles’ called for my own vantage to this classic theme of the city’s dichotomous allure.”

Musically, “Twisted Tongues” and “Escape from Los Angeles” feature AFI’s driving, punk-infused rhythms and riffing, with Havok’s high-pitched, emotive vocals. The tracks are available now for digital download and will also be available as a limited edition seven-inch vinyl single.

AFI previously announced that their new album will arrive later this year, stating, “Before the year’s end, our 11th album will follow. We could not be more happy with our latest work and hope you will feel the same. Thank you for joining us upon this next journey. We are thrilled to take it and honored to have you at our side.”

The upcoming album will mark AFI’s follow-up to 2017’s self-titled release, also known as “The Blood Album.” The new album will also be AFI’s 11th studio set, beginning with “Answer That and Stay Fashionable” in 1995. AFI has maintained a consistant lineup over the years, currently including Havok, guitarist Jade Puget, drummer Adam Carson and bass player Hunter.

In related news, Havok and Puget released a new album with their electronic side project Blaqk Audio, “Beneath the Black Palms,” in August 2020. That album marked Blaqk Audio’s follow-up to 2019’s, “ONLY THINGS WE LOVE.”
