Ghost Frontman Tobias Forge Discusses His Early Desire to Make Music
Ghost visionary Tobias Forge says he has wanted to be in a band since he was a child
Tobias Forge has found himself in a pretty great spot: fronting one of the biggest rock bands of the modern era. That band, of course, is Sweden’s Ghost. As it turns out, heading up a massive band such as Ghost is a dream Forge first remembers grasping onto many years ago.
Speaking with Loudwire Nights host Chuck Armstrong, Forge explained of touring and making music, “I do like it, because for as long as I can remember – at least for as long as I’ve been able to read – I’ve always been fascinated with the idea of touring, the concept of being in a band and all that has to do with it. I think I’ve always been interested in entertainment and show biz, so for me, coming up with ideas is not always just the aesthetics of things, it can be practical.”
Forge went on to compare being in a band to building a house. As he described, “Building a magnificent house in a f***ing amazing location isn’t just about coming up with the idea of the house. There are a lot of [practical things] there … It’s a very multifaceted thing that a lot of artists don’t care about. ‘You should book me and I’ll come, or maybe I won’t.’ No, I am attracted to touring and becoming better.”
Being in the studio and on the road are both important parts of what Forge does in Ghost. “You put your different hats on depending on what you’re doing,” he explained.
Most recently, Ghost released a five-song covers EP, which sees the band covering everyone from Tina Turner to Iron Maiden. Forge and company are also gearing up to embark on a summer U.S. tour. Find tour dates via the official Ghost website.
