Josh Homme contributes ‘Mickey Mouse & the Goodbye Man’ to Grinderman remix album

Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme is notorious for random collaborations and contributions. Years after forming psychedelic metal band Kyuss, he joined Queens of the Stone Age, co-founded Eagles of Death Metal and played with Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl and Led Zeppelin bass player John Paul Jones in Them Crooked Vultures. So, needless to say, Homme is teeming with restless musical creativity.

Homme’s latest venture is contributing a remix track to the new Nick Cave-led Grinderman remix album. The set, out March 13 in the U.S., is a collection of remixes, collaborations and reinterpretations of songs from Grinderman’s 2010 album, “Grinderman 2,” dubbed “Grinderman 2 RMX.” Homme adds a remixed version of “Mickey Mouse & the Goodbye Man” to the album. Other contributions include A Place to Bury Strangers’ version of “Worm Tamer,” Nick Zinner’s “Bellringer Blues,” UNKLE’s “Hyper Worm Tamer” and more.

Homme, always a prolific songwriter, says his drive to write revolves around “pleasure” and “freedom.” Speaking with Exlaim.ca, Homme explained, “I love this Man Ray quote: ‘My work has always been and always will be about two things: pleasure and freedom.’ I feel like that has always been the goal. And with every record, I’m trying to make myself a little more enlightened about my position in the world, even though I write about a lot of dark imagery and subject matter. I feel like a fish that’s fixated on a beautiful lure. That’s all I want to look at, you know, the beautiful things.”
