Chris Daughtry Shares Story of Meeting Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters on Tour
Chris Daughtry had an awesome time chilling with Dave Grohl and Foo Fighters during the band’s recent San Jose show
Dave Grohl is often referred to as the coolest guy in rock ‘n’ roll, so it makes sense that he loves hanging out with other rockers. Former American Idol superstar Chris Daughtry is the newest musician to get some quality time with Grohl, following a Foo Fighters concert in San Jose that took place earlier this month.
Daughtry explained to the Charlotte Observer that he texted Grohl, asking about going to the show, and Grohl actually invited him to come on over. Daughtry, a longtime Grohl fan, was expecting a quick meeting, but instead, Grohl invited him into the Foo Fighters’ dressing room. Daughtry and the Foo boys ended up sending two hours talking about music and more.
“I’m like, ‘You guys have a show to put on, right? You’ve been in here telling stories…for two hours plus and you’ve gotta go out and play now…How do you do this and walk out and still have a voice?'” Daughtry explained to the Observer.
He added, “And (Grohl) goes, ‘What better way to walk out on stage then after you’ve been hanging out with friends and laughing and having a good time? You’re already in a great mood.'”
This pre-show hangout was a bit different from what Daughtry experiences on the road. “We usually hang out with our guests after the show,” Daughtry said. “It’s always this ‘quiet before the storm’ for us in the hours before the show. So, I think that was an interesting takeaway, that maybe we shouldn’t take everything so seriously.”
Foo Fighters will be back on the road in October, beginning with their CalJam festival, set for Oct. 6 in San Bernardino, California. The festival will also bring performances from Iggy Pop, Tenacious D, Greta Van Fleet and Garbage.
