Dave Grohl is “mapping out what he wants the next record to be,” says Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins

Since 2019 was a bit of a quiet year for Foo Fighters, fans are hoping that new music from the post-grunge icons must be on the way. According to drummer Taylor Hawkins, new tunes are on the way, and in a new interview with Kerrang!, Hawkins explains that frontman frontman Dave Grohl is in the process of “mapping out what he wants the next record to be.”

“I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s something coming down the pipe,” Hawkins said of the coming new album. “I can’t 100 percent spell it out for you for sure, because I’m always the last to know and I don’t want to give it away.”

Looking ahead to next year, 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of Foo Fighters’ 1995 self-titled debut album, and Hawkins thinks the band will do something to commemorate that special anniversary.

“I would imagine there will be something made of the 25th year of the Foo Fighters, for sure,” he said. “You know us, we never stop.”

Grohl hasn’t commented on the 25th anniversary yet, but he is promising new music. During the band’s recent performance at Brazil’s Rock in Rio last month, Grohl told the audience that the guys would start working on their new album once they were back in the U.S.

In other news, Hawkins is gearing up to release a new studio album, “Get the Money,” which he recorded with his band the Coattail Riders. The album features Grohl on some tracks, plus appearances from Foo guitarist Pat Smear, Queen drummer Roger Taylor, and Guns N’ Roses bass slinger Duff McKagan. “Get the Money” is out Nov. 8.
