Dave Grohl is the first act to be announced for the annual Dimebash concert, which honors Dimebag Darrell

The 2020 Dimebash just got a big boost, as Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl has been confirmed to lead the lineup. The annual concert –  which is set for Jan. 16 The Observatory in Santa Ana, California – always honors the life and music of late Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott, who was shot to death during a concert in 2004.

Grohl, who has appeared at several Dimebash events, is the first act to be confirmed for the event. As for the rest of the lineup, expect “many more top rock and metal artists,” according to a release. Organizers will announced the full lineup in January.

In addition to performing, Grohl will also be cooking at the show for the performers and VIP ticketholders with his BackBeat BBQ catering company.

“This year will mark the 15-year anniversary since Darrell was taken from us,” said Rita Haney, Darrell’s longtime partner. “Even more of a reason to come together with friends and chosen family to honor the man that brought so much love and laughter to our lives…not to mention some pretty sick tuneage!”

“If you’ve never experienced ‘the room’ at Dimebash, it’s something you can’t describe — the love, the unity, the smiles, the magic,” she added. “It’s a special kind of vibe you have to check out at least once for yourself. Then you’ll almost know what it’s like to have Dime physically in the room.”
