Wolfgang Van Halen Celebrates One-Year Anniversary of ‘Distance’
Mammoth WVH’s “Distance” recently passed the one-year mark, and Wolfgang Van Halen celebrated the milestone with a heartfelt message to fans
One year has passed since Mammoth WVH, the band spearheaded by Wolfgang Van Halen, released their debut single, “Distance.” The song was an emotional one, with Wolfgang paying tribute to his father, the late, great Eddie Van Halen, about a month after his dad’s death. Now, to honor the one-year milestone of “Distance,” Wolfgang has sent a special note to fans to thank them for their support.
“‘Distance’ released a year ago today,” Wolfgang state of the song, which dropped on Nov. 1, 2020. “It’s a special song for two very important reasons. A song commemorating my Pop and our bond, as well as being the very first Mammoth release. It marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life in more ways that one.”
He added, “I never could’ve imagined the overwhelming outpour of responses from something so close to my heart. It blew me away. I just wanted to take this moment to thank you all for listening and for the amazing support you’ve given me and Mammoth this past year. You have no idea how much it means to me. Thank you.”
Later in the note, Wolfgang spoke to his dad, stating, “I hope you’re watching and I hope you’re still proud, Pop. I love and miss you more than you could ever know.”
“Distance” shot to No. 1 on rock radio last last year. Speaking with Audio Ink Radio, Wolfgang said the showing was unexpected. “I certainly couldn’t have seen it coming,” he said. “That really surprised me. I think maybe ‘Distance’ just kind of gave people an outlet, in terms of how awful the past year has been.”
He added that “Distance” is a deeply personal song, “Considering that this is all me, I guess I just kind of went all in and just put my entire self into it,” Wolfgang said. “So, I think that’s why the personal vibe really kind of comes out, because it’s truly me, 100%.” Find Audio Ink Radio’s interview with Wolfgang Van Halen here.
