Stone Cherry take down-home, Southern rock on the road

Southern rockers Black Stone Cherry are hitting the road, and they’re taking Cavo and Rains with them on a North American club tour that promises to be filled with Southern rock riffs and tight post-grunge. The tour kicked off yesterday (Feb. 1) in Libertyville, Ill., and runs through Feb. 18 in Shreveport, La.

Black Stone Cherry are out in support of their current album, 2011’s “Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea,” which offers stomping riffing, thick rhythms and an overall down-home, country vibe. The band worked with producer Howard Benson on the release (P.O.D., Daughtry), and drummer John Fred Young says it was a tad nerve-wracking working with such a big name.

“At first we didn’t know what it would be like working with him, but we became good friends,” Young exclusively told Audio Ink Radio. “He’s a smart guy, and he helped us out with a lot of chord changes. For me, personally, he helped with playing drums more for the song instead of overplaying. He helped Chris [Robertson, lead singer] a great deal working with him vocals.”

Cavo are out supporting their upcoming album, “Thick as Thieves,” out Feb. 28. Rains dropped their debut album, “Stories,” last year, and the guys have scored some buzz with their hit ballad off the release, “Look in My Eyes.”
