Corey Taylor of Stone Sour Names His Favorite Metal Albums
Anthrax, Judas Priest and Korn all fall inside Corey Taylor’s favorite metal albums
Corey Taylor of Stone Sour is among a handful of musicians who have opened up to Rolling Stone about their favorite metal albums. Taylor’s top 10 choice include Judas Priest’s “Screaming for Vengeance,” Anthrax’s “Worship Music” and Korn’s self-titled debut.
Explaining his love for the Anthrax album, Taylor writes, “I almost sang on this record, so I heard some of the music early, and I knew it was going to be really special. There’s just so many good songs on that album.”
Taylor also says he believes Korn is on the “same level” as major releases such as Nirvana’s “Nevermind” and Guns N’ Roses’ “Appetite for Destruction,” when it comes to “albums that shifted things culturally.”
“I feel like people have forgotten how explosive and poignant Korn were when they hit the scene,” Taylor stated.
Taylor also put White Zombie’s “Astro-Creep: 2000” on his list. “I don’t even know if people would even consider that a metal album, but I do, just for the fact that it’s so riffy,” he said.
Taylor’s piece was in conjunction with a list Rolling Stone just compiled of the “100 Greatest Metal Albums of All Time,” in which they put Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” at No. 1.
Other musicians who have contributed their favorite metal albums include Ozzy Osbourne, Rob Halford of Judas Priest and Lars Ulrich.
