Evanescence six-stringer loves scary films

Halloween is almost here, and Audio Ink Radio is checking in with some killer rock and metal players to find out their favorite horror flicks. We already spoke with Wayne Static of Static-X, who adores the Shining, and Andy Sixx of Black Veil Brides, who enjoys Insidious. Now, Evanescence guitarist Troy McLawhorn is checking in to name his choice scary film for the Halloween season.

The Evanescence six-stringer says he’s “a big horror movie fan,” and it’s hard to pick just one favorite flick. “There are a couple I really like, but if I had to pick off top of my head, the Halloween movie — the first one — is one of the best horror movies, ever,” he said. “Michael Myers is such a good character. I’ve always been a big fan of Michael Myers.” Not a bad choice, Troy.

“When I joined Evanescence, I realized that in real life, Terry [Balsamo, Evanescence’s other guitarist] used to be in Cold, and he would wear this Michael Myers mask on stage, so I had to tone down my Michael Myers fascination,” he added, laughing. “He has the mask on top of his amps, so I have to kind of do my own thing.”

Evanescence’s latest, self-titled album debuted No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart earlier this month, selling 127,000 copies in the U.S. The collection — which is Amy Lee and the group’s third studio album — is a smoothly-flowing set of epic, goth-inspired pop-rock and metal, and it carries the Evanescence character from beginning to end.
