Black Stone Cherry: Carnival of Madness is ‘a Big Family Reunion’ [Interview]

Theory of a Deadman, Black Stone Cherry, Alter Bridge, Adelitas Way and Emphatic kick off Carnival of Madness this weekend

The 2011 Carnival of Madness tour kicks off this Saturday, Aug. 13, in Twin Lakes, Wis., and takes a meat-and-potatoes rock line-up through several major U.S. cities before finishing up Sept. 18 in Dayton, Ohio. While last year’s had Brent Smith and the guys of Shinedown headlining (hence, the name Carnival of “Madness,” as in “Sound of Madness”) this year it’s Theory of a Deadman, with support coming from Alter Bridge, Black Stone Cherry, Adelitas Way and Emphatic.

“It’s going to be a great tour,” Black Stone Cherry drummer John Fred Young told Audio Ink Radio. “We’re also going on a co-headlining tour with Alter Bridge later this summer playing arenas in Europe, so we’re really looking forward to that, too. When it comes to our live show, I think people appreciate that we try to bring it every single night.”

“The tour is going to be fun, because we’ve know all those bands,” added guitarist Ben Wells. “I was just hugging the guitar tech for Theory of a Deadman [on tour] because we’ve toured for so long, and we just got off tour with Alter Bridge. It’s going to be a big family reunion out there, and we’re going to hit some good cities, and it’s going to be fun.”

Black Stone Cherry are experiencing unprecedented heights with their recent single, “White Trash Millionaire.” The track is their highest charting song ever, reaching No. 11 on the active rock chart last month. The band’s new album, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, brings big rock riffs and raw grunge with a basis of blues and soul. Howard Benson (Daughtry, Theory of a Deadman) produced the album with Young, Wells, vocalist Chris Robertson and bassist Jon Lawhon.

Sounds like a good basis to kick off a strong rock show, right? Find tour dates for Carnival of Madness on the festival’s official website. (Photo: Black Stone Cherry guitarist Ben Wells, Audio Ink Radio.)
